Original Npros business profile for Comforts of Home, preserved below for archival purposes:
Comforts of Home was a Germantown, Wisconsin-based home décor party-plan company founded in 1981 by Helen Aiken. Aiken began the business by making home decorations from her home, and the company operated for many years as Wicker Plus, Ltd. before adopting the Comforts of Home name. Historical company materials described Comforts of Home as a family-oriented home-party company supported by independent Consultants and Directors, along with its office and warehouse staff. Wicker Plus was an established direct seller by the 1990s and was included on a Direct Selling Association membership roster with its product category listed as decorative accessories.
The company sold decorative home accessories and household décor, with the earlier Wicker Plus product line including decorative wicker and country-style home accessories. Surviving Wicker Plus merchandise includes decorative stoneware and kitchen pieces, while contemporary industry directories categorized the company broadly under decorative accessories. Following the transition to the Comforts of Home name, the product emphasis remained home décor and accessories sold through personal presentations and home parties.
Comforts of Home operated through a party-plan direct-sales model using independent Consultants and field Directors. Consultants conducted home presentations and sold products directly to customers, while the Director structure supported development and management of the sales organization.
