Original Npros business profile for Call the Planet ( CTP ), preserved below for archival purposes:
CallThePlanet Corporation, commonly abbreviated CTP, was an international Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) telecommunications company operating by at least 2005. The business was led by John Eitel, President and CEO, and maintained operations in Vancouver, British Columbia, as well as an international presence in the Caribbean and Latin America. By 2007 the company was also using ctpcom.net alongside calltheplanet.com, and company correspondence showed an administrative office in Barbados. Eitel later stated that CTP had customers in more than 100 countries.
CallThePlanet marketed low-cost international telephone service delivered over the Internet. Its principal hardware product was the VectorWORLDBox, a portable VoIP telephone adapter that connected a conventional touch-tone telephone to an Internet connection. The device could be used with broadband service and was also promoted for dial-up Internet users. Calls between VectorWORLDBox users were marketed as free and unlimited, while calls from the CTP network to ordinary telephone numbers were charged at discounted international rates. Historical company material stated that CallThePlanet obtained rights through an agreement with Galaxy Telecommunications to market the VectorWORLDBox through its affiliate program.
Customers paid a one-time charge for either software or a hardware adapter and then a recurring service fee. Historical CallThePlanet pricing preserved by Npros lists the retail service at $24.95 per month. Individuals interested in selling the service could enroll as resellers and pay approximately $69.95 per month for a Virtual Business Center, which provided the tools needed to market CTP service and enroll customers. The affiliate program was also promoted as a way for users to offset or eliminate their own monthly telephone-service cost by referring additional customers.
