Original Npros business profile for Daystar, preserved below for archival purposes:
DayStar Services, L.L.C. was founded in 1995 as a Nashville-area multilevel marketing company headquartered in Brentwood, Tennessee. Rather than selling physical merchandise, DayStar used independent distributors to market a collection of financial, travel, and telecommunications services to households throughout the United States. Contemporary company promotional material emphasized that distributors were not required to purchase inventory or pay a mandatory enrollment fee.
DayStar's services included Visa Classic and Visa Gold credit cards issued through AmSouth Bank of Birmingham, Alabama. Distributors received compensation based on qualifying card charges and interest volume. The company also offered a travel membership costing $44.95 per year, with advertised discounts of as much as 50% on hotels, cruises, condominiums, rental cars, vacation packages, and airline tickets. Its "Magic Number" telecommunications card cost $14.95 annually and combined discounted long-distance service with an assigned toll-free number, voicemail, conference calling, paging, fax mail, speed dialing, sequential dialing, and call forwarding.
The opportunity used a six-level MLM compensation plan. Distributors could sponsor additional distributors and earn percentages from service purchases and usage generated through six downline levels. To qualify for quarterly commissions, a distributor generally needed five active retail customers. Credit-card commissions also required at least $300 in customer charges per quarter and accounts in good standing with the issuing bank. A $19.95 startup kit containing the company handbook, compensation plan, training materials, and sales literature was recommended but was not mandatory. Participating nonprofit organizations could have normal distributor compensation redirected to them as fundraising income.
Company appears to be closed.
