Home & Garden Party was founded in 1996 by Steve and Penny Carlile in Marshall, Texas. The company operated as a home-party direct-selling business focused on home décor, entertaining products, party supplies, stoneware, candles, framed art, home fragrance, and decorative household accessories. Its sales model was built around independent party designers who hosted in-home product parties and events.

Home & Garden Party later became part of a larger direct-selling consolidation in the home décor category. After Home Interiors & Gifts filed Chapter 11 bankruptcy in 2008, Home & Garden Party and Home Interiors were combined and relaunched under the Celebrating Home name. Later company materials described Celebrating Home as having a national network of more than 50,000 designers and generating more than $100 million in annual sales through in-home parties and events.
