Lia Sophia no longer appears to be active as a direct sales company.
Lia Sophia was a fashion-jewelry direct-selling company with roots in the former Act II and Lady Remington jewelry businesses. Victor Kiam acquired the Act II home-sales jewelry company in 1986, later renamed it Lady Remington, and the business was relaunched as Lia Sophia in 2004 in reference to Tony and Elena Kiam’s daughters. The company sold affordable fashion jewelry, including necklaces, earrings, bracelets, rings, and seasonal collections, through a home-party sales model.
Lia Sophia operated through independent Sales Advisors who hosted jewelry parties and sold products directly to customers. Older direct-sales listings described the opportunity as offering approximately 30% commission, downline commission opportunities, and starter kits priced around $149. The company became one of the better-known U.S. jewelry party-plan businesses, with public reporting later referring to approximately 30,000 sales advisors.
The original Lia Sophia direct-selling business closed in the United States and Canada after announcing in December 2014 that it would wind down by December 31, 2014 and cease operations by the end of February 2015. The former LiaSophia.com domain no longer presents an active official direct-sales opportunity, consultant enrollment program, or current product-party business. Some Lia Sophia jewelry continues to circulate through resale channels and third-party sites, but the original MLM/direct-sales company is no longer active.
Lia Sophia’s legal history includes a $6.7 million class-action settlement involving customers and former sales advisors after the company shut down. Plaintiffs alleged that Act II Jewelry LLC, doing business as Lia Sophia, stopped honoring its lifetime replacement guarantee, misused customer information, and continued recruiting sales advisors even as the business was preparing to close. The settlement covered approximately 4 million customers, 19,069 sales advisors, and 2,709 newer sales advisors who had purchased starter kits.
