Original Npros business profile for Momentis, preserved below for archival purposes:
Momentis was established by Just Energy in January 2010 as a multilevel-marketing channel for residential and commercial energy services. Just Energy created Momentis U.S. Corp. and Momentis Canada Corp. to market electricity, natural-gas and green-energy contracts in deregulated North American markets. The company was headquartered in the Dallasâ€"Plano area and operated under the Momentis International name.
Momentis representatives enrolled households and businesses in energy plans supplied by Just Energy and its affiliated companies. The product mix included electricity, natural gas, renewable-energy options and, in some markets, home-related services. Representatives generally used a "warm market" approach, referring friends, relatives and existing business contacts to online enrollment pages rather than directly processing customer applications themselves.
The company used a multilevel compensation plan that paid immediate customer-acquisition bonuses, residual commissions based on customer usage, team bonuses and leadership bonuses. Representatives could build organizations of recruited marketers and receive compensation connected to customers enrolled throughout the organization. Momentis reported approximately $71 million in 2013 revenue, placing it at No. 95 on Direct Selling News' 2014 Global 100 ranking.
Just Energy changed the arrangement effective March 31, 2014. In its annual regulatory filing, the company stated that it had previously marketed energy contracts through its Momentis subsidiaries but had restructured the MLM channel and outsourced it to a third-party network-marketing company. Contemporary industry reports identified Momentis chief executive Andy McWilliams as taking control of the operation, although the full sale agreement and financial terms were not publicly released.
Under McWilliams, the company introduced "Momentis 2.0" and diversified beyond energy. By 2015 and 2016, Momentis was promoting merchant-payment processing and M Rejuvenate, a three-product skincare system consisting of a serum, moisturizer and night cream. The skincare set carried a reported one-time retail price of $175, or $125 through monthly autoship.
The later compensation plan charged $99 for basic representative enrollment and offered larger business packages costing as much as $999. The $999 package included 14 M Rejuvenate sets. The plan contained six representative ranks and paid customer-acquisition commissions, unilevel residual commissions, recruitment-related bonuses and leadership compensation. Rank advancement required combinations of product or service sales, cu
