NLC International was a Houston, Texas-based multilevel marketing company founded and led by Hao Nguyen. Unlike most MLM companies, which typically focus on a specific product category, NLC International attempted to bring a wide range of consumer and business services under one network marketing organization. Its offerings included wireless telephone service, electricity and energy services, travel, discount benefits, wellness products, mortgages, real estate, health insurance, financial services, home security, and other consumer services. The company also operated specialized programs under names such as NLC Wireless and NLC Travel.
Independent participants joined as Marketing Representatives and earned commissions by referring customers to NLC's various products and service providers while also building a sales organization. Historical enrollment options started at approximately $100 and included a personalized website and access to company marketing and training materials. The compensation plan used what NLC described as a 2x1 Follow-Me Matrix, with representatives earning commissions from personal product and service sales as well as bonuses and team commissions based on their membership and qualification level.
