Original Npros business profile for Signature Homestyles, preserved below for archival purposes:
Madolyn Johnson founded Signature Homestyles in 1971 with a vision to offer women the opportunity to build fulfilling careers while maintaining personal and family priorities. Built upon this strong foundation, Signature Homestyles offers and exlusive line of decorating and organizing products for the home.
Signature HomeStyles was an Illinois direct-selling company founded in 1971 by former teacher Madolyn Johnson. Johnson reportedly started the business with $1,500 from her retirement fund and a $600 loan from a neighbor. The company was later led by her daughter, Cari Christopher, and operated for many years from Glendale Heights, Illinois, before moving its headquarters to Franklin Park. Signature HomeStyles participated in the Direct Selling Association and sold its products in the United States and Canada.
The company marketed home-decorating and organization products, including baskets, wall art, candles, candleholders, pillows, throws, table linens, seasonal decorations, storage products, lighting, garden décor, and other household accessories. At one point its catalog contained more than 400 products. Signature HomeStyles promoted versatile products that could be used in multiple rooms and emphasized helping customers decorate and organize their homes affordably.
Signature HomeStyles primarily used a home-party and social-selling model. Independent Decorating Consultants sold through in-home demonstrations, online parties, pop-up events, personal consultations, social media, and individual customer websites. Consultants earned retail commissions and could receive additional compensation by recruiting and developing sales teams. Around 2020, published opportunity information listed commissions of approximately 25% to 40% on personal sales and starter-kit choices of $99 and $198. The company did not publish a detailed earnings disclosure showing typical consultant profits after expenses.
The business later operated through New Signature HomeStyles LLC, an Illinois company incorporated on August 6, 2021. Paul Bessinger served as president, and the company was associated with SideGigster LLC, a social-commerce platform that allowed participants to promote Signature HomeStyles and other product brands. SideGigster advertising offered commissions beginning at 15%, representing a shift toward affiliate-style online selling alongside the company's traditional party-plan program.
