Stampin' Up! is a paper-crafting and decorative-stamp direct-sales company headquartered in Riverton, Utah. Founded in 1988 by sisters Shelli Gardner and LaVonne Crosby, the company has spent more than three decades offering stamp sets, ink, paper, accessories, project kits, coordinating colors, and creative tools for greeting cards, home décor, scrapbooking, gift packaging, and other craft projects.
Stampin' Up! sells its products through home parties, creative gatherings, online ordering, and a network of independent sales consultants known as demonstrators. Demonstrators teach card making and paper-crafting techniques, introduce customers to new products and catalogs, and help customers complete handmade projects. The company has operated in the United States and Puerto Rico, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Germany, France, the United Kingdom, Austria, the Netherlands, Ireland, and Belgium.
Stampin' Up!'s mission statement, called its Statement of the Heart, reads: "To love what we do and share what we love, as we help others enjoy creativity and worthwhile accomplishments . . . in this we make a difference." To support that mission, the company launched its Making a Difference program in 2003, encouraging corporate giving and service among demonstrators and employees. Stampin' Up! continues to promote its business around creativity, community, supplemental income, and the personal connections created through handmade paper crafts.
The current Stampin' Up! opportunity includes both personal selling and team-building features. New demonstrators can purchase a $99 Starter Kit containing $125 worth of products, including shipping and business supplies. Demonstrators begin with a 20% product discount and 20% commission, and the company's materials state that demonstrators can also be rewarded for selling, team building, and leadership activity. To remain active, demonstrators must submit $300 in sales per quarter, which can include personal purchases and customer orders.
Joining Stampin' Up! as a demonstrator requires the purchase of a Starter Kit for $175.00. There are two kits to choose from, and each contains an assortment of products and business supplies worth over $340.00. Stampin' Up! demonstrators receive a 20 percent product discount and first access to new product lines and designs.
Stampin Up! holds a weekly call for people who would like to learn more about becoming a demonstrator. A representative from Stampin Up!'s home office discusses the company's history and philosophy, products, and opportunities. A question and answer session follows.
