Original Npros business profile for Tealightful Treasures, preserved below for archival purposes:
Tealightful Treasures was founded in Rochester, New York, by Charlene Phillips, who began developing homemade teas and baking mixes in 2000 while looking for a business she could operate while raising her children. Customer interest led Phillips to expand the concept into direct selling in 2003, with independent Tea Consultants hosting themed tea parties and selling the company's products. Tealightful Treasures, Inc. was incorporated in New York in January 2005, with Phillips serving as founder and CEO and her husband, Eric Phillips, as vice president.
The company specialized in loose-leaf teas, scone mixes, teapots, cups, tea accessories, bath and body products, and other products built around the traditional tea-party experience. By 2008, Tealightful Treasures had consultants operating in more than 40 states. Average tea-party sales were approximately $425, customers typically spent $35 to $40 per order, and consultants could earn commissions of up to 32% on their sales. Consultant starter kits cost $150, with a $99 initial payment.
Tealightful Treasures operated primarily as a party-plan direct seller. Consultants hosted home tea parties, conducted tastings, sold at events, and introduced new consultants to the business. The company promoted both retail selling and consultant leadership, supported representatives with training and business materials, and participated in the broader direct-selling industry. Nebraska tax records document its direct-seller distributor agreement beginning April 26, 2007.
In 2019, Tealightful Treasures changed its business model and discontinued direct selling. The company continued under the shortened Tealightful brand, shifting its focus to conventional consumer sales, tea education, tastings, events, and online retail. The business remains active today, with Charlene Phillips continuing to develop and market loose-leaf tea blends. Its current online store carries black, green, white, oolong, herbal, fruit, and seasonal teas along with tea accessories and specialty collections, and the company continues publishing new product and tea-education material in 2026.
In 2022, the Direct Selling Self-Regulatory Council reviewed health-related claims associated with Tealightful Treasures products. The company removed or addressed the claims and informed DSSRC that it had ceased operating as a direct-selling company in 2019. DSSRC administratively closed the matter because the company was no longer within its direct-selling jurisdiction.
