Thermomix Overview
Thermomix is a premium kitchen-appliance brand owned by the German Vorwerk Group. Vorwerk was founded by Carl and Adolf Vorwerk in Wuppertal, Germany, in 1883 as a carpet manufacturer and introduced direct selling in 1930. Vorwerk engineer Hans Gerber developed the first Thermomix in 1971 after conceiving an appliance that could heat and blend food in the same container. The original VM 2000 evolved through several generations, including the TM31, TM5, TM6 and the current TM7.
Thermomix combines food preparation and cooking functions in a single countertop appliance. The current U.S. model, the Thermomix TM7, is priced at $1,699 and performs more than 20 functions, including chopping, blending, weighing, kneading, steaming, slow cooking and controlled heating. The appliance connects to Vorwerk's Cookidoo recipe platform, which offers more than 100,000 guided recipes. Thermomix also sells accessories, replacement parts, sensors and Cookidoo subscriptions.
Thermomix products are sold through online ordering, company experience centers and independent consultants who conduct individual or group cooking demonstrations. The company's current U.S. structure is a limited-depth network-marketing-style direct-sales plan. Consultants earn commissions on personal appliance sales, while qualifying Team Leaders receive commissions on sales generated by consultants within their teams. The plan also includes bonuses for recruiting productive consultants and developing new Team Leaders.
Thermomix remains active and is Vorwerk's largest business division. Vorwerk reported 3.618 billion in group revenue for 2025, with Thermomix/Bimby accounting for 59% of that total. The company delivered more than one million TM7 appliances during 2025, had more than six million Cookidoo subscribers and reported more than 129,400 direct-sales advisors across its brands at year-end. Vorwerk operates in more than 60 countries.
On April 11, 2018, the Federal Court of Australia ordered Thermomix in Australia Pty Ltd to pay A$4,608,500 for false or misleading representations and conduct involving the TM31 appliance. The court found that the company failed to disclose promptly a known risk that the lid could lift and allow hot food or liquid to escape, misrepresented some customers' refund and replacement rights, and failed to make 14 required serious-injury reports. Approximately 105,000 potentially affected TM31 appliances had been supplied in Australia.
