ViPZE was an Internet-services and social-media network marketing company developed by the founders of VIPConnectz, a telecommunications MLM that was operating by 2007 and marketed Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) calling services internationally. ViPZE expanded that concept beyond telephone service by combining social networking, online advertising, digital communications and Internet entertainment under the slogan "Monetize Your Socializing." The company was led by VIPConnectz co-founders Edward "Ed" Weaver and Scott Mercker. By 2009, ViPZE was promoting itself internationally, particularly in the United States and Latin America, and company materials claimed the social network had accumulated more than 200,000 registered users.

A significant expansion occurred on October 1, 2009, when VoIP network marketing company IamVoip announced that it was joining ViPZE. IamVoip founder Blake Christensen described the arrangement as combining its independent-agent organization with ViPZE's broader product platform, while an email from IamVoip CEO Henrik Risvang told agents that their organizations were being transferred into the ViPZE system. IamVoip distributors received ViPZE websites and back-office systems, and the former IamVoip organization was recreated within ViPZE's binary compensation structure. Existing VoIP customers continued using their telephone-service packages while new agents and customers were enrolled through ViPZE.

ViPZE's product offering centered on its online social network, Internet advertising, VoIP communications, email and related digital services. The company also promoted fantasy sports and other online entertainment features. Free users could participate in the social network, while individuals seeking to earn commissions could become Global Affiliate Partners and build organizations by introducing additional users and promoting ViPZE services. One component of the compensation program was a revenue-sharing system consisting of five global pools, each funded with 2% of ViPZE's worldwide gross revenue, potentially allocating a combined 10% of worldwide gross revenue to qualified participants. Qualification was based on the number of active users personally introduced and the size of a participant's active community. Following the IamVoip combination, the opportunity also incorporated a binary network-marketing compensation structure.
