Original Npros business profile for WELLNESS INTERNATIONAL (WIN), preserved below for archival purposes:
by Ralph and Cathy Oats. Headquartered in Plano, Texas, the privately held company expanded into Europe, Mexico, South Africa, Australia and other international markets. By 1996, distributor promotional materials stated that WIN had generated more than $70 million in cumulative sales and enrolled approximately 21,000 distributors. The company later operated European activities through WIN Worldwide BV in the Netherlands.
WIN sold nutritional supplements, weight-management products, sports-nutrition formulas and skincare. Its best-known line was the BioLean weight-management system, which included appetite-control, metabolism and nutritional products. Other products included WINrgy energy supplements, WINOmeg3complex, Sure2Endure sports-nutrition products, Phytovite antioxidant and vitamin formulas, and the Stephan line of nutritional and beauty products. During the late 1990s, WIN also experimented with telecommunications and internet services alongside its primary health-product business.
The company used a multilevel compensation plan under which independent distributors earned retail profits and commissions based on purchases and sales generated through several levels of their organizations. Historical distributor materials advertised commissions of up to 10% through six levels, an additional percentage on deeper organization volume, permanent rank positions and company-operated training centers. WIN's business model placed substantial emphasis on distributor recruitment, recurring product volume, training and advancement through the sales organization.
