Herbalife Nutrition marked the first year of its Nutrition for Zero Hunger initiative and released early results ahead of World Food Day.
The program is aligned with the second United Nations Sustainable Development Goal, which seeks to end hunger in all its forms by 2030 and to improve food security and nutrition. The company said more than 2 billion people do not have access to enough nutritious food and that food needs will rise as population grows. It is working with partners on resources, meals, and education.
To date, the company said the initiative has made nearly 700,000 nutritious meals available to children and families, delivered more than 500,000 servings of donated products and 3,500 pounds of food, provided 47,000 women with breastfeeding and nutrition education, and provided 40,000 children with dietary supplements meant to reduce nutrient deficiency.
Alan Hoffman, executive vice president of global corporate affairs, said the effort has helped but that ending hunger will take governments, nonprofits, and companies working together.
The company cited a United Nations report that an additional 132 million people are likely to face food insecurity by the end of 2020 because of the pandemic. First-year partners named by the company include Feed the Children, The Hunger Project, Chrysalis, the National Hispanic Council on Aging, and the Chinese Red Cross Foundation.
