NATURE'S SUNSHINE PRODUCTS
October 28, 2026
CANBERRA, Australia - October 28, 2026
Nature's Sunshine Products has begun a consumer-level recall of its Andrographis herbal supplement in Australia, joining a growing list of companies pulling products that contain the herb after the country's medicines regulator concluded that the risk of severe allergic reactions could no longer be managed with warning labels.
The recall, recorded by the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) as action RC-2026-RN-00869-1, began on October 28, 2026. It covers Nature's Sunshine Andrographis, listed on the Australian Register of Therapeutic Goods as AUST L 302367. The TGA classifies the action as a Class I recall at the consumer level, the most serious hazard category the agency uses. The responsible entity is Nature's Sunshine Products of Australia Pty Ltd, the Australian arm of the Lehi, Utah-based direct selling company. The recall record identifies batch 2212, with an expiry date of October 2028, while the TGA's consolidated Andrographis recall list, updated October 30, describes the action as covering all unexpired batches of the product.
Andrographis paniculata is an herb long sold in immune-support and cold-and-flu formulas. Since 2019, listed medicines in Australia containing the ingredient have been required to carry a label warning about the risk of allergic reactions, including anaphylaxis. According to the TGA, reports of anaphylaxis linked to Andrographis products continued at a sustained high level despite those warnings, including a fatal case reported in June 2024.
After publishing an updated safety review and supplementary report in April 2026 and taking public submissions, the TGA removed Andrographis from the list of ingredients permitted in low-risk listed medicines, effective September 17, 2026. The change barred new Andrographis products from being listed, but did not automatically remove products already on the market. Instead, the regulator asked sponsors to voluntarily cancel their listings or recall their products, and said it would begin taking regulatory action, including possible compulsory recalls or cancellations, from mid-October 2026 for companies that did not act.
Nature's Sunshine is the latest in a long line of sponsors to respond. The TGA's recall list now includes more than 30 Andrographis-containing products from more than 20 sponsors, including well-known supplement brands and pharmacy private labels, ranging from immune-support capsules to cold-and-flu tablets.
The TGA is advising consumers who have the Nature's Sunshine product not to use it. Customers can return it to the place of purchase or contact Nature's Sunshine customer service on 1800 687 577 to arrange a return and refund. Wholesalers have been told to inspect their stock immediately and quarantine all Andrographis product on hand. The agency notes that Andrographis reactions are unpredictable, can occur the first time a person takes the herb or after earlier use without problems, and often happen within 30 minutes. Anyone who may be experiencing anaphylaxis should call 000 immediately.
The recall is limited to the Australian market and to a single product. Nature's Sunshine Products, Inc., which trades on Nasdaq under the symbol NATR, sells herbal supplements, vitamins and personal care products through independent distributors and online channels in markets around the world. The company is scheduled to report its third quarter 2026 results on November 4.
