DoTerra said its largest annual global convention drew more than 81,000 registrants from 133 countries. Pursue 2020, also called the doTERRA Global Connection, was held virtually for the first time so participants could stay apart during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Founding executive and chief executive David Stirling said the theme, Pursue, marks the company mission to pursue what is pure. Sessions looked at products, business practices, intentions, and what he called the pure love of humanity. He said technology let the company connect with people it could not gather in person.

The events team produced more than 22 hours of educational content. Attendees could watch eight general sessions over four days at their own pace, including new product announcements and talks from people in science, quality, research, medicine, supply chain, and philanthropy. Another 53 bonus segments went deeper on session topics and essential oil training. A floor of a building on the Lindon, Utah campus was turned into a set with six rooms of a home for a choose-your-own-adventure style program.

The convention was translated into 12 languages plus American Sign Language. Viewers could ask questions and join polls in their own languages. The company invited social media posts with the tag doterrapursue2020, and many of those posts appeared on the event site.

Emily Wright, founding executive for global leadership development, said a normal year brings more than 30,000 people to downtown Salt Lake City for a week. She said the team tried to build something people would watch over four days and return to later, and that the result beat expectations.
