Herbalife Expands Nutrition Program

The Herbalife Family Foundation (HFF) has established two new Casa Herbalife programs to support nutrition and wellness programs at Scotland's Action for Children (North Lanarkshire Young Carers Project), and in Queretaro, Mexico at La Alegria de los Ninos, IAP (Children's Happiness).

In 2006, HFF provided a grant to Action for Children's London location to help educate young people who serve as their family's primary caregiver. Due to the program's success, an additional request was made for funding for its North Lanarkshire Young Carers project in Scotland, which began 15 years ago. The project currently supports over 250 young people who serve as the primary caretaker for ailing or chronically ill parents through a wide range of support services that include in-school support, outreach/community support, focused group work programs, individual counseling, family support, and educational activities and excursions.

The grant will help Action for Children offer young 'carers' more training around the importance of preparing and storing food properly, food hygiene and food safety as well as learning to cook for their families and make healthy food choices.

Founded in 1994 with the mission of protecting infants and children who are victims of abuse, abandonment and neglect, La Alegria de los Ninos, IAP in Queretaro, Mexico, offers a safe haven from the streets for these at-risk children and provides food, shelter, care, clothing and education while adoption proceedings are in progress or prior to a strategic and carefully-crafted family reintegration plan being established.

To date, La Alegria de los Ninos, IAP has served, sheltered and placed 235 children in safe homes or reintegrated them to their families. With three current locations in the state of Queretaro, the organization serves approximately 10 percent of displaced children in the state. The ages of the population served range from infants to 17 years of age.

The grant will assist in providing three meals and snacks daily to the 70 children currently in the organization's care. Additionally, a portion of the funds granted will be used to support essential wellness treatments for children with special needs.

The Casa Herbalife program was created in 2005 to help bring good nutrition to children in need. HFF works with organizations to improve the ability to provide the children in their care with more nutritious foods. These programs mark the 56th and 57th programs worldwide, respectively. Action for Children in Scotland is the second Casa Herbalife program in the UK; there are now 23 programs in the company's EMEA region. There are 5 programs in its Mexico region.

HFF is a 501(c)(3), non-profit corporation dedicated to improving children's lives by helping organizations provide healthy nutrition to children at risk. Additionally, HFF often supports relief efforts in response to natural disasters.
