Green Mountain Energy Sun Club Donates 30K for Solar Installation
World Hunger Relief is a non-profit organization committed to providing education in agriculture and community development with the goal of alleviating hunger around the world. Their farmland in Waco hosts community trainings, provides educational programs to individuals and communities to live sustainably and advocate on behalf of the poor, and partners with both local and international sustainable development programs. The Sun Club solar array donation will enable the organization to reduce their energy costs and fund more educational programs, events, and trainings, allowing them to further expand their reach.
"Sustainability is our main crop here at World Hunger Relief, and we're thrilled to be able to continue our educational programs with the help of this new renewable energy source," said Matt Hess, executive director, World Hunger Relief. "This solar donation from the Sun Club is extremely important to our mission and our message, and will help us expand our impact working with communities in need."
The solar array will be installed on the organization's new pavilion and save the non-profit money on its electricity bills. The savings will go right back into programs which address the problem of world hunger. The panels will also be featured in various school tours, field trips from visiting organizations, and Farm Day events, educating the organization's 5,000 annual visitors on the importance of renewable energy, and its service to World Hunger Relief.
"Each Sun Club donation helps a deserving non-profit, but this donation in particular will expand our reach by helping communities around the world," said Tony Napolillo, Sun Club Program Manager, Green Mountain Energy Company. "World Hunger Relief's mission has established it as a leader of sustainability, and we're thrilled to see our members' donations contribute to the worthy cause of ending world hunger."
World Hunger Relief provides real-life sustainable agriculture training to organizations and individuals who then take these lessons to developing countries for implementation. The farm serves as a real-life teaching ground, providing Agriculture and Food Systems Internships to individuals who feel called to address hunger locally and across the world. Some of the sustainability practices present at the farm include the collection of rain water for reuse, expansive composting methods, and the use other sustainable technologies, serving as an example of environmental consciousness to the communities they serve, often in remote and developing nations.
