Nu Skin said it has acquired 3i Solutions, a manufacturer focused on encapsulation technology. The company expects the deal to improve beauty and wellness formulas by using 3i research and processes.
Chief executive Ritch Wood said 3i has deep experience encapsulating ingredients for cosmetics and nutritional supplements. He said the sales force and consumers should see better absorption of nutritional ingredients, new ways to deliver ingredients, controlled release of active ingredients, and more formats.
3i Solutions was founded in 1997. Its research team works on making oil-soluble material dispersible in water, which the companies said can raise absorption and extend shelf life.
Charles Brain, president and chief executive of 3i Solutions, said the firms share values and plan to speed innovation while tying 3i technology into Nu Skin product work.
