Nu Skin announced new zero-waste pledges during Utah Climate Week, answering a call from the Utah Sustainability Business Coalition for measurable environmental commitments.

The company said it will cut waste by an additional 30 percent at its global headquarters and will educate all employees by the end of 2021 on how to use its recycling and waste-disposal programs. The pledges sit on top of earlier goals in three areas it calls people, product, and planet.

Chief executive Ritch Wood said the company wants to leave the planet better for the next generation and has been building sustainability into sourcing, carbon footprint, and packaging.

Nu Skin is a founding member of the Utah Sustainability Business Coalition, a network of local businesses working on sustainability. During Utah Climate Week, member organizations were making pledges, and Utah Lt. Gov. Spencer Cox was set to address them on a webinar about changes businesses can make.

The company also cited outside recognition. The Business Intelligence Group gave it a 2020 sustainability award, and Provo City named it the first recipient of a Maximum Green Award after solid waste fell 30 percent since 2018 and energy use fell 21 percent since 2015.
