Mannatech Inc. has taken steps to tighten controls on how its dietary supplements are sold, including no longer allowing certain material to be available at corporate events, the company announced Monday.

The action comes less than three weeks after Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott sued the Coppell-based multilevel marketing company, accusing it of operating an "elaborate scheme" to defraud consumers. Abbott's suit contends that Mannatech has used a variety of tactics to allow its supplements to be sold as cures for cancer and other diseases.

In a news release, the company said that it was implementing several "compliance initiatives" but made no mention of the lawsuit.
