Original Npros business profile for NestFamily, preserved below for archival purposes:
Nest Family Entertainment traces its history to the late 1980s and the Family Entertainment Network, an educational-media company founded by Jared F. Brown and Seldon O. Young. The business produced dramatized audio programs and animated films based on Bible stories, historical figures, and character-development themes before operating under the Nest Entertainment and NestFamily names. Its productions included Animated Stories from the New Testament, Animated Stories from the Bible, Animated Hero Classics, and the 1994 feature film The Swan Princess.
The company's principal product collections included 36 animated stories drawn from the New Testament and Hebrew Bible and 20 animated biographies of prominent historical figures. The videos were accompanied by activity books and other educational materials intended for families, churches, schools, libraries, and homeschool users. Nest later expanded into curriculum, books, music, toys, games, church supplies, classroom materials, home décor, gifts, and products from other educational and Christian publishers.
During the 1990s, Nest distributed its videos through a home-party and multilevel direct-selling program. Independent distributors conducted presentations called the "Nest Family Showcase," during which families watched portions of the animated programs and reviewed the accompanying activity materials. Hosts received a free video and activity book valued at approximately $30, along with additional products when party sales reached specified levels.
Distributors entered the business by purchasing a $99 "Nest Box Office" kit containing sample videos, activity books, catalogs, order forms, recruiting brochures, training materials, business cards, and a distributor pin. The compensation plan began with a 25% commission on personal sales and included overrides on personally recruited distributors. Contemporary company recruiting material expressly described the structure as a multilevel plan with a breakaway feature and encouraged participants to build teams through selling, recruiting, and supporting other distributors.
