Northern Lights at Home was the direct-selling division of Northern Lights Enterprises, a candle manufacturer founded by Andy and Tina Glanzman in Wellsville, New York, in 1978. The parent company built its business around designing and manufacturing premium candles, home-fragrance products, and decorative accessories. Northern Lights at Home expanded that business into the home-party market, with trademark records showing commercial use of the name beginning in February 2004. The brand was specifically registered for direct solicitation by sales representatives, online and catalog ordering, and shop-at-home parties featuring candles, candle accessories, and housewares.

Independent representatives, known as Presenters, marketed Northern Lights products through home parties, personal customer relationships, fundraising programs, catalogs, and online ordering. The product line centered on scented and decorative candles, aromatherapy products, candle accessories, and home décor.
