NSA ( National Safety Associates )was founded in 1970 by Jay Martin, who continues as CEO as of 2007. Martin was a former school teacher. NSA's original product was home fire-protection equipment sold via door-to-door salespeople.

National Safety Associates later expanded into water filtration products. In the mid eighties, NSA changed their sales play to a multilevel marketing program and expanded their product line to include air filters and educational products.

In 1993, NSA launched their nutritional supplement product, Juice Plus.
