Viridian Energy Holds Fifth Annual Convention
"We were pleased to host our annual PowerUP! convention at a venue that helps further these ideals as we reinvigorate our commitment to drive positive change on both local and global levels."
PowerUP! began with tours of a nearby waste-to-energy plant that processes tons of casino and municipal waste to generate enough electricity to supply 18,000 Connecticut homes. Home to its own 16 MWe natural gas fuel tri-generation power plant, Foxwoods Resort & Casino was chosen as the venue for Viridian's annual celebration, in part, because of its commitment to reducing its own carbon footprint and operating greener enterprises. The Foxwoods tri-gen plant supplies roughly 60 percent of the electricity used by the Resort & Casino and is capable of producing steam which can heat and cool all of Foxwoods. In addition, Foxwoods provides ongoing revenue contributions to Viridian Energy's home state of Connecticut. Foxwoods' most recent contribution to the Connecticut Special Revenue Fund was $11.2 million, bringing its cumulative contribution to the state to nearly $3.6 billion since 1992.
"Viridian was founded with the vision to change the way America buys and consumes energy, in order to ensure a better future," said Michael Fallquist, President and CEO of Crius Energy and Founder and CEO of Viridian Energy. "We were pleased to host our annual PowerUP! convention at a venue that helps further these ideals as we reinvigorate our commitment to drive positive change on both local and global levels."
Key announcements at this year's convention included growth plans for Viridian's new price certainty rate program for electric and natural gas supply, 3DOM, now available in Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York and Washington D.C., and further expansion of the company's rapidly growing "Clean and Simple" solar energy product. Top-performing Associates were recognized throughout the event, culminating with a formal "Ampy" Awards Gala.
Viridian also revealed Portrero Platanal, Nicaragua, as the fifth location of its "7 Continents in 7 Years" global sustainability initiative. In Nicaragua, the group will bring light to 48 homes in a rural village, inaccessible by car, with no future prospects of grid energy supply. Since 2011, Viridian has completed a major project on a different continent each year including reforestation in Brazil's Amazon rainforest and solar power installations on schools, homes and community centers in Ghana, Indonesia and Fiji.
"The remarkable milestones Viridian has achieved are a direct result of the efforts of our passionate network of more than 20,000 Independent Associates," said Meredith Berkich, President, Viridian Energy. "Their deep commitment to sustainability, community action and global initiatives has created a competitive business advantage for Viridian and is one of the key reasons we have been named one of the top 100 direct selling companies in the world for the past three years."
