Police in Jaipur, in India's Rajasthan state, raided regional offices of the QNet Vihaan network and arrested 17 representatives on October 21, 2023 after people who said they had been defrauded filed complaints at the Vidyadhar Nagar police station.
Police seized three luxury vehicles, including a Mercedes and an MG Hector, along with two laptops, an iPad, about two dozen mobile phones, numerous bank debit and credit cards, and diaries and books allegedly used to recruit victims. Investigators said the group persuaded salaried workers to quit their jobs and join by promising a luxurious lifestyle, then pressured recruits to buy products. Police identified Vinod Saran as the alleged ringleader in Jaipur, working with associates Premanand Sangwan and Amol Shivaji, and said those arrested came from Haryana, Maharashtra and Rajasthan.
Police later reported an additional arrest, bringing the total to 18, and said 20 bank accounts linked to the scheme had been frozen. QNET, a Hong Kong-based direct selling company that operates in India through Vihaan Direct Selling, has faced repeated police action in the country, where authorities have treated its Vihaan network as a banned money-circulation scheme.
