Mary Kay Cosmetics History

The Mary Kay cosmetics history begins with Mary Kay Ash who founded the company in 1963. Ms. Ash was already a successful business woman in the corporate environment and direct selling. Mary Kay Ash was a single mother, raising three children and needed the flexibility that direct selling afforded her.

For many years, she gave ‘home shows’ at the residences of customers for Stanley Home Products. After much success but disillusionment with the direct selling industry as a whole, she decided that she would like to have her own ‘dream company’ based upon her own standards and guidelines.

When Mary Kay ash founded Mary Kay Inc., she did so with the vision that the company would provide unlimited opportunities to women and would be based upon three principles of God first, family second, career third. She purchased the formula for her cosmetics line from the daughter of a woman she bought her own skin care products from, who used as a base a leather tanning ingredient.

The Mary Kay cosmetics history continues to the present day where it now has offices all over the world, over a million consultants, and a vote from Fortune magazine as one of the 100 best companies to work for in America.
