USANA Health Sciences reported fourth-quarter net sales of 310.5 million dollars for the fiscal period ended January 2, 2021, up 14.5 percent from a year earlier. Diluted earnings rose 32.6 percent to a record 1.87 dollars a share. Fiscal 2020 was a 53-week year, and the extra week added about 18 million dollars of sales and an estimated 0.17 dollars of earnings.
Full-year net sales rose 7.0 percent to 1.135 billion dollars. Full-year diluted earnings rose 32.9 percent to a record 5.86 dollars a share. Active customers rose 2.2 percent to 599,000. The company ended the year with 312 million dollars in cash and no debt, and it repurchased 785,000 shares for 57 million dollars during the year. The board authorized repurchases of up to 150 million dollars, including about 73 million dollars still open under the prior plan.
Chief executive Kevin Guest said demand for nutritional products stayed strong and that digital work, including the mobile platform, payment options, and easier product sharing, helped the company operate through the pandemic. Initial 2021 guidance calls for net sales of 1.21 billion to 1.27 billion dollars and diluted earnings of 6.00 to 6.45 dollars a share.
Chief financial officer Doug Hekking said the outlook assumes one fewer week of business than fiscal 2020, a favorable currency backdrop, and higher travel and event spending later in the year. Asia Pacific was 80.1 percent of quarterly sales, at 248.8 million dollars.
