USANA

USANA has joined the Utah Sustainable Business Coalition and pledged to reduce plastic waste in 2020 and after. Its first steps are smaller bottles, to cut wasted space, and a switch from conventional plastic bottles to bottles made with 25 percent post-recycled material.
The coalition brings together Utah businesses and community partners that want to improve environmental health and sustainability in the state. Paul Jones, chief leadership development officer, said health is the company focus and sustainability is a core value. He said USANA is also an EPA WasteWise member, an EPA Green Power Partner, and one of 235 founding organizations of the Climate Registry.
The company described its corporate campus as part of that effort. Solar roof panels supply 60 percent of the power used, and the grounds use drought-friendly xeriscaping. Employees get water bottles refilled at coolers in the building. Lights, air conditioning, and heat are shut off after hours and on weekends. Electric vehicle charging is available, and hybrid vehicles and carpools get VIP parking.
A Green Team started in 2006 has become the corporate social responsibility committee, an employee-led program covering materials, shipping, and office conservation. Board member Peggie Pelosi, who provides board oversight of those initiatives, said the company wants sustainable decisions from raw materials through shipping and in-office conservation, and she tied that work to the company focus on human health.
